Ah…indigo, a shade open to interpretation for multiple reasons. Indigo has two color scales, making it one of the most versatile and misunderstood colors in the ROYGBIV lineup. At first, the name indigo came from a plant indigenous to India with a dyeing range of deep blue green to blue violet. The widespread use of the tint caught the attention of Sir Isaac Newton. His Enlightenment era experiments with sunlight and a prism brought the range of visible colors to seven to be analogous to the seven-note musical scale. He shoehorned the color between blue and violet and dubbed it indigo. This is what makes indigo somewhat of a mystery and associated with higher knowledge and intuition.
